I don't do daily drawing challenges. I just don't have it in me to sit down everyday and draw a prompt. I lack the discipline and yet, I find myself jumping onto the Inktober bandwagon every year.
After last year's attempt where I experienced internal combustion on day 15 of the Inktober challenge, I vowed never to put myself through that kind of a nerve straining experience again. Of course, the ensuing self-flagellation was expected.
Le mind: "Why do you even bother? You KNOW you're not capable of pulling something off as simple as this."
Le mind: "Surprise surprise! You're a disappointment...and imagine the other people you've disappointed by not seeing through the challenge and posting everyday."
Le Me: Sigh...
But now, it's 2020. Much MUCH worse stuff has gone down in life (and in the world) and the angst I associated with 2019 is quite laughable. Then, I saw it on my Instagram feed last night. Excited posts of people flexing their drawing skills, posting images of their blank drawing pads and ink pens poised to sketch, and it got me.
Le Me: "To hell with past experiences with daily drawing challenges, I say!" I sternly told my mind while dramatically flinging my arm out to throw a sheaf of papers in the air.
Le Me: "This is a great opportunity to get back to drawing on paper and displaying my abilities"
Le Mind: ...or lack there of (shh!, shut up mind 😑)
So here I am! Bright and shiny and a wee bit intimidated. Imma try to turn the intimidation into inspiration and not beat myself up for missing a day (if it happens....which I'm sure it will)
I've been wanting to try out a new drawing style. Something closer to figure drawing, but who would model for me? Then it hit me. I could draw me! I could look at my own body and draw what I saw! There was also the added advantage of not having to worry about disappointing another person because the drawing looked nothing like him/her. #win So there you have it. Everyday during this year's Inktober challenge, I'll be inserting myself (literally!) into the daily prompts ✍️.
What you see in today's post are my feet standing in a Koi fish pond. <3
